Final Reflection

Final Reflection

In this course I learned several techniques of writting formal documents, in fact I knew some of them but the homeworks and class activities helped me understand the characteristics that some of this documents must have.
I liked the very last activities that are related to job interviews, CV's and recomendation letters because I'm sure I will use them in the future.
I also think that the movie we analysed in class was pretty cool!

What I did not like about the course was the vocabulary, it isn't that useful in daily life.

Thanks Ms. Clemente for her patience.

Short Story Analysis; The story of a mother by Hans Christian Andersen

The Story of a Mother written by Hans Christian Andersen is a story about a mother and her sick child. The child was about to die, when a mysterious man came into the woman’s house and took the child away, so the mother had to go on a long way full of obstacles in order to find her child. In this story we can see that Andersen is trying to transmit values like perseverance, sacrifice and faith through allusions and symbolisms to express that, the love of a mother to his child can go further than death.

There are six characters along the story, each of them alludes to something. The main character is the mother; she symbolizes all the mothers in the world because all mothers share the same feelings, “And the mother looked down in her lap, and the tears ran down over her cheeks; her head became so heavy--she had not closed her eyes for three days and nights” (Andersen, 1848). The second character is a man, he represents the death and he was the one that took the child away. In order to find her child, the mother had to ask for directions and all the characters wanted something in return. First, she asks a woman, she represents the night and she wants some songs to be sung for her; then, she asks a thornbush who alludes to a lonely person and he wants her to warm him; after that, she finds a lake and until the woman gives him something value, he helps her, so he symbolizes the avarice; finally she finds a grave old woman who represents wisdom. From this paragraph we can highlight that we have to learn to give without expecting anything in return.

The grave old woman told her to enter to Death’s house, it was called the Great Greenhouse; inside, it was full of trees and plants and each of them represented a life, “every tree and every flower had its name; each of them was a human life” (Andersen, 1848); a person died when Death plucked a plant off. The mother told Death not to pluck the child’s plant and threaten him to pluck off other plants, but when Death told the mother that other mothers would suffer, she imagined all the sadness the mothers would feel and she decided not to. Finally Death plucked it off and the mother understood that it was the time because he would be still suffering. Sometimes the only solution we have is to let something go to improve things.

In “The Story of a Mother”, Andersen utilizes basic chraracteristics of a mother like, sacrifice, love, tenderness and carefullness.
With this elements on the story, we can imagine how the love of a mother can go further than death and appreciate what our mothers can do for us in order for us to be fine and happy. We can also learn from this story that sometimes we won’t get what we want at the moment, but all the sacrifices will be worth at some point in our lifes.

Outine Review

Alonso Perea's biography

I was born in Mexico city in 1996, at that time I was living in Lindavista zone. My grandma was an importan support for my mother in order of raising me because my grandmom knew things that my mom did not.
I loved my grandmother since that time and I love her nowadays.

I starded my kinder garden in a school called "north williams", there was where I met my best friend ever, his name is Dave. I remember talking to him about childen´s stuff, dressing in the parades and playing in the boulevard park near the school when the classes were over.

My elementary school was called "Victoria Tepeyac College" and it has been the school in wich I have stayed longer (5 years). After geting bored of the VTC I returned to North Williams school to finish my last two years of primary education.

When I entered secondary school I moved to Cuautitlán and I applied for two schools, the one that I liked more was the second one in wich I stayed two years, in that years I had the pleasure to know a group of friends that until nowadays we still hang out and stay in touch. At that time I started being a vegetarian

My family and I were willing to move to Querétaro before I start high school but at the end we stayed and I applied for Tec high school, in the three years in "Prepa Tec" I learned a lot of life; friends, girls, parties, grades, etc and I'm really happy of having some of my old classmates in my major now. During this last semester I have met several people from other high schools and I believe they are great, my friends and me have a schedule for all of the weekends in order to have fun.

Talking a little bit about my person; like I mentiones before, I'm a vegetarian, I think it's an important component in my life because is my way to thank the planet and the wisdom of its habitants the knowledge that is given to me everyday. I'm a true believer of life and that it has to be respected and protected.
I´m an only son, in my house lives a dog with my parents and me, his name is Chewbbaca.
I love to travel aroun Mexico in order to know more about the population and its places.

The major I'm studing at Tec is architecture bcause I love creating structures and combining the art with the daily life, I'm also aware of the new technologies that the building could adopt in order to be friendly with the environment and my intention is to promote them.
